  • Spot early signs of stress and burnout

  • Reflect on your personal and professional growth

  • Make time for self-care and recovery

  • Build self-awareness without overwhelm

Print it. Stick it in your placement folder. Fill it in with a cup of tea on a Sunday night. Because looking after your patients starts with looking after yourself.

Grab your free copy below and start checking in with yourself, one week at a time.

These are 20 questions you can ask yourself at the end of your nursing week to check in with yourself. This helps you to celebrate the weeks wins, focus on growth and recognise when burnout is creeping up on you.

Emotional Check-In

  1. How am I really feeling today — emotionally and mentally?

  2. What has been the most emotionally draining part of my week?

  3. Did I feel supported this week — by my mentors, peers, or university?

  4. Is there something I need to say, but haven’t?

  5. When did I feel most like myself this week?

Time & Energy

  1. Did I give myself any real rest or downtime this week?

  2. Am I saying “yes” too much and stretching myself too thin?

  3. What drained my energy this week? What gave me energy?

  4. Have I taken time to do something just for me?

Placement Reflection

  1. Did I feel confident and competent in practice this week? Why or why not?

  2. Was there a moment I felt proud of myself on placement?

  3. Is there a skill or situation I found particularly challenging?

  4. What feedback (positive or constructive) did I receive — and how did it make me feel?

  5. What patient experience stuck with me — and why?

Mind-Body Awareness

  1. How did my body feel this week? (aches, tiredness, signs of stress?)

  2. Did I eat well, sleep enough, and stay hydrated?

  3. What physical signs of stress did I notice, if any?

Self-Compassion & Growth

  1. What would I say to a friend who had the same week I did?

  2. What did I learn about myself this week?

  3. How can I be kind to myself going into next week?
